Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the elbow band (conventional, flat type) and three different types of taping therapy alter hand grip strength and electromyographic activity of the forearm extensor muscles.Twenty healthy subjects were tested without elbow band or tapings (control) and with elbow band, sports taping, McConnell taping and Kinesio taping. Mean isometric grip strength, mean isometric wrist extensor strength and root mean square (RMS) values of wrist extensor muscles were measured and compared with control values. The mean isometric grip strength, mean wrist extension strength and RMS values of wrist extensor muscles were not significantly changed when compared with control values. The flat type elbow band and three different types of taping method did not reduce a burden on wrist extensor muscles. Further studies should be undertaken in patients with tennis elbow to determine if this results can be generalized to a patient population.
